Career changer needs to get from point A to point B?

I am a homeowner, married, and have been a professional Information Technology recruiter for over 12 years. I'd like to make a career change to become a hydrologist, which would require me to return to school to get a bachelors and master's degree. I am sick of recruiting and sales related jobs. What job(s) can I take to keep me financially afloat while I go back to to school, bearing in mind that CA is a high cost of living state (i.e. high monthly mortgage)?

Understanding this suggestion may not be the most advantageous but may I suggest you stay on in your present position as a part-timer while in school. The idea is to keep you a-float while you are in transition. Employment prospects are slim at best unless you are willing to flip burgers for minimum wage. One difficulty that seems pervasive for you is your experience; the word "over-qualified" plays a large part here. Another thought: have a chat with one or more of the Temp. agencies, there may be some merit in it. You may even qualify with one of your local employment rehabilitation agencies too, speak with the DSHS people they may have an idea or two, you might even be able to work out something through the school of your interest/choice. Just a couple ideas. Congratulations on your decision for change.

Information Technology Insurance Jobs

One of the best and often the most lucrative insurance jobs that you will find out there is in the technical or information technology portion of the insurance industry. Every insurance company, both large and small, is required to house a series of data on their clients on a day-to-day basis. Given the HIPAA mandates, not only must they house that data, but also to provide for the storage and retrieval of it in the event of an emergency and to assure that the data is well guarded and the privacy of the patients and clients are maintained.

IT or information technology is found all across the insurance jobs arena and you're going to find that a wide array of kinds of IT are necessary in every insurance jobs venue. From the largest insurance company to the very smallest, guarding the identity of the patient, as well as their privacy is key to the smooth and legal operations of the insurance company.

In addition to those mandates, the law requires that insurance companies must also house the data in such as way that it is private and that, if there is a breach or a need, that the new data must be stored in networks or off site facilities that are readily available to them and which are also completely private. Not only this, but also the ability to attain the data and to return it at a moment's notice is needful in the insurance jobs industry.

Aside from data storage and data management and monitoring, the best technical salaries in the field of IT can be found in insurance jobs. Among the other jobs that are necessary for every insurance company is IT management, IT monitoring, and Network security. On top of those professionals working in the field of insurance jobs, we will also find website developers, systems engineers, network engineers, as well as help desk and support personnel. We will also find those who develop the programs and systems for the insurance company, as well as others who will provide for the needs of the other workers to have their questions about hardware and software answered.

Those who are proficient in coding, in website design and in software and hardware, as well as data entry can find a very lucrative salary in insurance jobs in the IT industry. If you're someone who is experience in computers, may--or even sometimes may not--have a degree in programming or design, you may well find a good paying job in the insurance jobs market.

Many people consider that those who work in insurance must be insurance agents or must have knowledge of insurance. It's isn't necessarily true that every job in the insurance jobs arena is directly involved with the sales and provision of health care insurance, or home, auto, life or other insurance. In many cases, the support personnel for these companies may make as much, if not more, than the salesmen and women who work directly with the insurance sales department.

Looking for insurance jobs? Or looking for top talent in the industry? Many individuals and companies report success when Insurance recruiting specialists act as the match-maker between the hiring company and job seeker.

Global market turmoil points to project delays

GLOBAL economic turmoil has heightened caution in Australia, with recruiters warning that new IT projects could be deferred. While many recruiters and technology chiefs expect hiring to remain steady until the end of the year, market uncertainty is top.

Since I am unable to find a job in Information Technology what field should I go into instead?

Since the IT field is not the same as it once was around 1999, what fields should I consider going into? I am sick of the games in the IT field especially with job recruiters and their jive. I pretty much had my heart set on a career in IT until it dried up. At 35, I feel lost. Should I go back to grad school and accumulate more debt?

What is army reserve mos 25B (Information Technology) like?

Just to be clear its the RESERVES I'm talking about. I talked to a recruiter today about it (I am prior military so I know how to deal with them and meps) but I was hoping if there was anyone on here who knew anything in-depth about the job. I understand the basics but I want to know how people in the field feel about it. More specifically I want to know how often 25B gets deployed in the reserves. I'm not worried about getting deployed because I actually like going on deployment, however I would like to know for my own benefit. I know the reserves don't deploy much but if anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

In the reserves, it's a total crap shoot, as with any other unit regardless of if you're Active, Guard, or Reserves. I've been a 25B since before the MOS change over and we were 74B. Of the Reserve guys I know in the same MOS, it totally is upon the unit's OPTEMPO as well as whatever taskings they may have flying across their desk(s). I've seen guys yanked out of one unit to join another because of an MOS-specific tasking to join X unit for X amount of time in X place. I know how it is for Active more so then Reserve folks through personal experience unfortunately. Do you know what specific Reserve unit you'll be assigned to? You may want to contact them directly, explain your situation, as well your questioning about a possible deployment and that may prove more fruitful.

IT jobs in Australia see salaries pay as much as miners

In the past six months, salaries for information technology workers have ballooned by up to 25 per cent and recruiters predict the upward pressure will only continue because fewer people are choosing computing as a career path.

what do Information Technology recruiters typically make per year?

Depends on where they are located, the type of people they recruit (for example, all kinds of bonuses are paid for people with security clearances), how hard it is to find someone with a particular skill, etc... Someone recruiting people with scarce skills for a high tech company in Silicon Valley will probably be paid a lot more than someone in Detroit MI who is looking for Windows System Administrators.

im confused, if my MOS is information technology or something, in the army, do i still go on missions?

If my MOS is information technology, do i stay on base and work on computers. Or is that job only for while i am not deployed. and then when i get deployed i am just a regular infantry soldier. I dont know, i dont trust recruiters, they are full of lies.

Your MOS is the job that you will be performing while in the Army, period. Now if whether or not you are deployed that is still your primary MOS no matter what. Whether or not you stay on base to do your job while you are not deployed all depends on the duty station that you are at. Some duty stations may have field ops, missions, or training that require you to go off base. However, it is possible to be at a duty station and be doing another job. For example, when I was active duty in the Marine Corps, my MOS was 1371, combat engineer, but when I was stationed in Japan i went TAD for 6 months doing clerical work at the Camp HQ bldg. only because when I arrived at my unit in Okinawa they were currently deployed and they had nothing for me to do. Also when I went to Iraq, although my MOS was still 1371, since I was the only 1371 in the Command Element that they put me with they had me do some of my MOS and some administrative, and some of just misc that needed to be done. When I did go off base for different missions while in Iraq,it wasn't to perform my MOS but to do convoys or pull security for the elections at the time. So when you get deployed, you will still have that same MOS and it being such a critical MOS more than likely you would be performing that MOS rather than doing "grunt work" but that is not always the case. I hope this information was helpful.

How To Get a New Information Technology Job...?

The job that I was offered fell through & it was too late to keep my job per they hired my replacement & had me traing them for the position (I work in I.T.). So I ended up w/ no job & went 3 wks b4 I was able to find another job. The problem? I took a job making 12,000 less than what I was previously making & to make it worst, I hate my new position. It's a entry level helpdesk job & I have 6 yrs experience in the field(plus the mgmt is questionable). Now I'm looking 4 another job. I'm open to staffing services, but now I don't know what 2 say. Recruiters keep asking why I left my job 4 the new crappy job. I tell them the truth about what happened but so far this has gotten me know where. What should I say? Should I tell them the new job I thought I had fail through & now I'm unemployed? Or Tell them about the new crappy job per I was at the other job for 4 yrs & I've been @ the new job for 2 months - R they going 2 look @ this as a unstable wk history? Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell them the second answer. Honesty is best in your situation.
