What is the difference between information systems and information technology?

I need to know a detailed description of the difference between information systems and information technology. I need a reliable website source. Please help! :)

Information Systems (IS) is an academic/professional discipline bridging the business field and the well-defined computer science field that is evolving toward a new scientific area of study. An information systems discipline therefore is supported by the theoretical foundations of information and computations such that learned scholars have unique opportunities to explore the academics of various business models as well as related algorithmic processes within a computer science discipline. Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications. The term in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review, in which authors Leavitt and Whisler commented that "the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology(IT)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_technology

Information Technology?

I'm planing on doing something with information technology and i wanted to major in this field. I would just like to get some feedback on stuff i have questions on. Does anyone know the top colleges that allow you to major in inforamtion technology? (feed back maybe by people in these schools) Does anyone know of any other majors that would be similar and allow me to do IT stuff? If i major in information technology what jobs are avalible for me? Avarage pay? Should i go to school and get an associates degree or something in anything before finding a job? Is this a hard major? Any tips or feed back by people in this field? Sorry to ramble on but i just want to see what im getting myself into before i end up wasting money and time and doing something i dont like and end up failing at.

If you have logic and math affinity it is a very easy major. Another great thing about it - you don't need anything higher than BS degree, unless you want to teach in a university or do some fundamental research. You can search for job now, it is very hard to find if the employer don't have any idea what you can though, so certifications (i don't know what field you prefer) and AA degree should help a lot. 50-60K is ok for early BS degree.. The number goes up as you get experience.

How do you keep up with the latest technology trends, gadgets and releases? Some people just have that one friend who calls them at strange hours of the night to let them know about a new game release that isn't going to happen for another six month and some people spend a lot of time scanning the internet trying to find the latest news and reviews of products that are coming out. There are some magazines and even podcasts that bring a great deal of information to those interested consumers and these are becoming some very popular ways to get recent updates from the biggest companies in the industry like Apple, Microsoft, HP, Dell and many more.

There are some great tech blogs that do not get all the media attention like Engadget and Gizmodo do and many times these smaller technology news sources are bringing just as much value to the reader. The smaller technology blogs bring some great information and many times they cover some of the smaller stories that you may not hear about on the huge tech blogs. How do I get started in information technology?

I'm in grade 12 and I want to know what education I need to get into an IT career. I live in Toronto, Canada and there are only 2 Universities (outside the city) that offer a Bachelor of Information Technology. There are three colleges in my area that offer diplomas for Systems Technology, Systems Technician, Information Systems Business Analyst, and Networking. Is it better to get a diploma from college or a degree to get started in information technology? Is there any other way of starting an IT career?

get certifications first... then worry about getting a degree... seriously a well certified guy is almost always better and more valuable then a guy with a diploma... what part of IT do you want to get into? it really is a broad field. start by studying for a+ then decide if you want to do windows admin network admin DBA (oracle sql etc) or development or whatever... there are certs for all of these paths... just go down the path and you will do ok...

What is the difference between Information Technology and Information Engineering?

I want to apply for a major in a university. From the list of programs they offer, I saw only Information Engineering. I want to know if it is the same as Information Technology. Please I will also like to know the subjects involves in those two major and the kind of work/career they perform. Thank you.

No! absolutely not! Information technology would train you to be a proficient secretary, PA or librarian ( it encompasses learning to write essays, learning how to use Microsoft word and excel etc, and learning about the power of information ) . Information engineering is more like communications engineering. You would learn how to become a technician for a telecommunications company or the likes. you learn about transmitters and transistors, ( it would encompass a broad range of things from physics, and engineering to hands on mechanical training. )
